The day started out well enough on Wednesday.
In the morning, the Pipe Band loaded their bus, left campus and headed for the airport. Weather delayed their flight by an hour and a half. But no worries. A scheduled long layover in Newark meant they would have no trouble making the flight to Scotland.
The Regimental Band loaded the bus Wednesday afternoon already knowing that their flight out of Charleston had been delayed due to the weather and the presence of a VIP in Newark. That VIP was President Barack Obama, who was visiting New York and Newark. When the president comes into town all air traffic is delayed. The good news is, despite the delayed flight out of Charleston, The Regimental Band made their connection in Newark and boarded their plane to Scotland with 15 minutes to spare.
On the other hand, Citadel Photographer Russ Pace and I, were not so lucky. After circling Newark for 45 minutes, the VIP delay forced us to miss our flight to Edinburgh. We are now scheduled to fly to Scotland this evening, so stay tuned for more news about the band's participation in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
