Kevin Dougherty has been the Assistant Commandant for Leadership Programs at The Citadel since 2014. Prior to assuming this position, he was a TAC (Teach-Advise-Coach) Officer at The Citadel for four years, an instructor in the Department of History at the University of Southern Mississippi for five years, and an infantry officer in the United States Army for twenty-three years. He retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel and his key military assignments included professor of military science and training support battalion commander.
LTC (Ret) Dougherty has a PhD in International Development with security studies as his major field of study from the University of Southern Mississippi and is a graduate of the Army War College. He has published fourteen books on military and leadership topics. Among his more recent are The Port Royal Experiment: A Case Study in Development (University Press of Mississippi, 2014) and Military Leadership Lessons of the Charleston Campaign, 1861-1865 (McFarland, 2014).
