What's that old saying? Give a man a fish, and he'll eat well for a day; teach a man to fish, and he'll eat well for a lifetime. We abide by the same mindset here in the Academic Support Center. We are not interested in merely fixing one paper; instead, we strive to teach students helpful strategies that can be used throughout not only their academic careers but also throughout their lifetimes.

One-on-one, sixty minute sessions are available for students on an appointment or walk-in basis. Tutors focus on higher-order concerns such as content, organization, and rhetoric before moving to lower-order concerns such as formatting, grammar, and style. Tutors use the facilitative approach with the majority of students. For non-standard dialect speakers and ESL students, a hybrid of the facilitative and directive approach is used. At the end of each session, tutors fill out detailed session notes describing exactly what was covered.
