The Citadel Experience begins with the four pillars of learning:
ACADEMICSThe Citadel’s rigorous academic program offers cadets more than 20 majors and 30 minors that are critical in today’s society. Small classes, challenging faculty, and a wide array of educational support services provide guidance and tutoring for cadets to fulfill their highest academic potential.
MILITARYFreshmen cadets are immersed in intense military training that continues throughout all four years of cadet life. Cadets are also required to complete four years of military training in the ROTC branch of their choice. These experiences arm cadets with the time-management, discipline and teamwork skills necessary to succeed in both military and civilian careers.
FITNESSStudies shows that physical fitness helps improve academic performance. The physical fitness pillar requires cadets to meet fitness standards and to participate in regular physical training. Division I athletics and club sports provide additional opportunities to develop teamwork skills in a competitive environment.
CHARACTERPrincipled leadership training teaches cadets the value of integrity and moral character in everyday life. The Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics oversees the four-year leader development model which integrates leadership training into the cadet curriculum and gives cadets a competitive advantage that their peers from traditional colleges don’t have.
