The purpose of the Virtual Private Network (VPN) is to provide greater security by encrypting data for transmission through the Internet. Protocols and applications such as Telnet, Remote Desktop, PC Anywhere and FTP are a just a few that are known to be used to gain unauthorized access to Citadel Systems, computers and networks that can lead to data loss and identity theft. In order to remedy this situation, The Citadel has implemented Juniper Networks’ VPN solution, "NetConnect", to provide secure and easy to use access for faculty and staff. The VPN can be used to securely access campus resources from anywhere on the Internet.
When off-campus, you must first login to the VPN; otherwise, you will not be able to successfully use any of the following:
Windows File Sharing
OWA, Webmail, and Library Databases and Resources do NOT require the VPN.
It is the responsibility of anyone with an account to protect their username and password to ensure that their credentials are not used to allow unauthorized people access to The Citadel College internal networks.
VPN users will be automatically disconnected from The Citadel network after 60 minutes of inactivity. The user must then logon through the VPN again to reconnect to the network.
VPN users will be automatically disconnected from The Citadel network after 180 minutes. The user must then logon through the VPN again to reconnect to the network.
