Palmetto Battery, Regimental Band get top honors

For the third consecutive year Palmetto Battery has received the college’s top awards for outstanding academic achievement.

Also during the Sept. 30 military dress parade at The Citadel, the Regimental Band took home the top award for best freshman retention rate.

Palmetto Battery received both the Summerall Cup and the Pearlstine Award this year.

The Summerall Cup is given annually the cadet company that achieves the highest overall academic standing. The Pearlstine Award is presented annually to the company that achieves the highest freshman grade point ratio. Both awards represent academic work completed during the 2004-2005 school year.

Regimental Band received the Murray D. Bonnoitt award, which is presented annually in honor of Murray D. Bonnoitt, Class of 1962 and a past president of the alumni association. It honors the cadet company with the highest freshman class retention rate for the previous school year.

Accepting the awards for Palmetto Battery was Cadet 1st Lt. Sarah Williford and for the Regimental Band was company commander Cadet Maj. Jason Diefenthaler.
