The Class of 2016 will be recognized on Saturday, April 13, culminating their eight-month experience as Citadel knobs and marking the next step on the journey toward becoming principled leaders in the Corps of Cadets.

Recognition Day is a milestone in each cadet's leadership development at the Military College of South Carolina. The events associated with Recognition Day reinforce the concept of teamwork and overcoming adversity through physical challenges and the tenacity to succeed.

Likewise, Recognition Day is a very personal event shared by the cadets in each company but there are some opportunities for families to observe select recognition activities on campus. These are:

10:30 – 11:50 a.m. – The Gauntlet

The Gauntlet is a rigorous team-building event consisting of a series of timed tasks designed to foster camaraderie and pride in achievement. It brings full circle the first-year experience that began with matriculation day in August 2012 and culminates Saturday in a physically and mentally challenging way.

Summerall Field and WLI Field will be roped off. Spectators are asked to remain on the perimeter of the two fields during this event.

11:50 a.m. – Victory Lap around campus

Some roads on campus will be closed to traffic during this event.

Following the victory lap, the Class of 2016 will return to the respective barracks for the class set of pushups and upper class recognition. During the ceremony, the upper class cadets introduce themselves by name and recognize the freshmen by their first and last names, dropping the "Knob" designation. This is not open to spectators.

3:30 p.m. – Oath Renewal on the Citadel Green

Family, friends and the general public are encouraged to attend the oath renewal on Marion Square in downtown Charleston. Cadets will depart campus at 3 p.m., march down Moultrie to King Street to Marion Square, site of the original Citadel campus.
