Sponsored by the military college’s new Coast Guard Auxillary, the purpose of the event is to provide information to cadets interested in the Coast Guard Reserve program or Officer Candidate School. A Coast Guard officer will be available to answer questions.
The Citadel’s U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary was created in 2007 and currently has about 20 cadet members interested in pursuing commissions after graduation. The training they receive as members of the auxiliary includes courses on team coordination, risk assessment, basic boating and nautical terms. Participation in the auxiliary provides cadets with an avenue to pursue a career in the Coast Guard.
The helicopter would be flown in and positioned on the parade ground. The boat will be trailered and located on the pad in front of Padgett-Thomas Barracks. Accompanying the equipment would be members of the Coast Guard Reserve to describe the equipment and its uses plus provide information on the Coast Guard.
