Looking for a challenge? Try the Bulldog Challenge
The 12th annual Bulldog Challenge is set for Saturday, April 12, 2008, at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.
Sponsored by The Citadel’s Semper Fidelis Society, the Bulldog Challenge attracts teams from colleges, universities, law enforcement and the military each year. The event consists of a six-mile endurance course designed to test the physical and mental toughness of the competing teams. Among the challenges are the Marine obstacle course, a stadium climb, firefighters’ carry and pull-ups. Each four-person team must run the course while carrying three 20-pound sandbags.
Since its creation in 1996, the Bulldog Challenge has grown into a nationally recognized event attracting competitors from across the nation. In 2002 MTV’s reality series Road Rules Campus Crawl featured the Bulldog Challenge.
Registration is $30 per person ($120 for a four-person team). Deadline to register is April 7. Registration information is available at online. Click here.
Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to a scholarship fund in honor of Marine 2nd Lt. Almar Fitzgerald, Citadel Class of 2004. Fitzgerald died in February 2006 after being injured by an improvised explosive device that detonated during combat operations Iraq. He is one of six Marines and one of 12 Citadel graduates who have died in Iraq or Afghanistan since the war began.
