Grinalds Leader-in-Residence named
Gary Durante, Citadel Class of 1980, has been named to a one-year appointment as the John S. Grinalds Leader-in-Residence at The Citadel.
The John S. Grinalds Leader-in-Residence is an executive who has had a prominent career as a leader in business, government or non-profit organizations. The Leader-in-Residence is funded by a grant from Brig. Gen. Harvey Schiller, Class of 1960. The position was created during the 2005-2006 academic year and is named after retired Marine Maj. Gen. John S. Grinalds, who served as president of The Citadel from 1997 to 2005.
A retired Naval officer, Durante is a senior program manager at Scientific Research Corp. in North Charleston and president and chief executive officer of LEAD-ING, LLC, a leadership consulting firm. He and his family live in Mount Pleasant.
As a cadet Durante majored in biology. He earned as master’s in Chemistry from Auburn University and received his doctorate in business from North Central University.
Durante has been active in mentoring Citadel cadets in leadership positions and has taught leadership and ethics courses to freshmen. He is president-elect of The Citadel Alumni Association Board of Directors, immediate past co-chairman of Class of 1980 fundraising for The Citadel Foundation Board of Directors.
Durante will teach courses on ethics for undergraduates this fall and is assisting with the School of Business Administration Leadership Forum.
