Commencement 2007 Schedule of Events

Thursday, May 3

1:30 p.m. - Star of the West finals, Summerall Field
Inclement Weather: Deas Hall 
This event is the culmination of many hours of practice in rifle drill. The winner will be named the “Best Drilled Cadet” and will have his or her name inscribed on the Star of the West Monument located near the flagpole on Summerall Field. That cadet will also wear the Star of the West Medal. The ship, Star of the West, was fired upon by Citadel cadets in 1861.

3:45 p.m. - Military dress parade and awards review, Summerall Field
Inclement weather: cancelled and awards presented in Mark Clark Hall

5:30 p.m. - Baccalaureate service, Summerall Chapel.
The speaker will be Dr. Vincent Bacote, ’87, professor of Christian Theology at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. No flash photography or artificial lighting permitted inside the chapel. 


Friday, May 4 

2:15 p.m. - 2008 Summerall Guards performance in honor of the Class of 2007, Summerall Field.
Inclement weather: cancelled.

3 p.m. - Long Gray Line graduation parade, Summerall Field
Inclement Weather: cancelled
Members of the Class of 2007 will march in their final parade as cadets. As the class crosses Summerall Field to take the review, the leadership of the Class of 2008 will take command of the Corps of Cadets.

4 p.m. - Garden Party given by Lt. Gen. and Mrs. John W. Rosa for the Class of 2007 and their guests, Quarters One

Saturday, May 5

9:30 a.m. - Cadet commencement exercises, McAlister Field House 
A professional photographer will take photos of each graduate during the diploma presentation. Families are asked not to come forward to take family snapshots or video.
Guest speaker is former mayor of New York City and 2008 presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani.

Sunday, May 6

2 p.m. - College of Graduate and Professional Studies commencement, McAlister Field House 
A professional photographer will take photos of each graduate during the diploma presentation. Families are asked not to come forward to take family snapshots or video.
The Honorable Robert W. Harrell, Jr., speaker of the South Carolina House of Representitives, will deliver the commencement address.

3:30 p.m. - Reception for CGPS graduates and their guests hosted by Lt. Gen. and Mrs.
John W. Rosa, Deas Hall.
