Prep school for dropouts is Army effort to fill ranks

U.S. Army, eager to fill its ranks amid wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, doesn't see high schoo dropouts. They are recruits who only need a GED before they're ready to begin basic training. And so, the Army formally opened its first prep school Wednesday.

Roots of Rock and Roll” coming to The Citadel

The Citadel offers technology course for teachers

The Lowcountry Writing Project at The Citadel will offer a three-graduate-hour course called “Literacy in a Digital Age” for tri-county teachers at all grade levels and in all subject areas. Ex-AD Nadzak ready for radio

Former Citadel athletic director Walt Nadzak prowled the sidelines at the Bulldogs' final preseason scrimmage last Saturday, depth chart in hand. Nadzak, 72, was preparing for his newest gig — analyst for The Citadel Sports Network's radio broadcasts of Bulldogs football this season.

'New' Johnson Hagood will be unveiled Saturday

Anticipation is running high as The Citadel prepares to unveil the final stage of the $42 million renovation of the stadium, where the Bulldogs played their first game in 1948. As many as 200 workers per day have been toiling at Johnson Hagood in recent weeks.

The Citadel women fell to Gardner-Webb, 2-0, in their season opener at Washington Light Infantry Field.  Gardner-Webb's Paige Reagan was the first to take a goal through The Citadel's tight defense near the end of the first half.  Whitney Nave had five total saves for The Bulldogs.

Meet the Bulldogs on Saturday Moved to Willson Field Complex

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel’s “Meet the Bulldogs” Fan Fest and Scrimmage previewing the 2008 Bulldog football team has been moved to the turf practice field at the Maybanks Practice Facility at Willson Field on The Citadel campus due to the inclement weather in the Charleston area over the past 48 hours. Darren Goldwater, noted Joe Paterno apologist and former sidekick to Bobby Hartin on ESPN Radio 910-AM’s Fan Talk, will take over this football season as the new radio voice of The Citadel Bulldogs. A 2002 graduate of Penn State, Goldwater is a veteran of Citadel baseball and basketball broadcasts, and served as studio host for Bulldog football games. Injuries dog Citadel during camp

The Citadel football team ended training camp with a one-hour scrimmage Saturday afternoon, and not a day too soon. Receiver Alex Carr became the latest Bulldog to miss practice time with injury, sitting out Saturday's workout with a fractured bone in his left foot. The Citadel had a lengthier list of injuries than usual in the three weeks of fall camp that ended Saturday. ...

Weather wipes out Sertoma

Friday's high school football games in the Muhler Sertoma Classic were canceled because of the weather. The games will not be rescheduled. Sertoma Club officials said the field at Johnson Hagood Stadium could not handle another night of games. Thursday's games were played despite torrential rain associated with Tropical Storm Fay. There will be no ticket refunds, Sertoma spokesman John Panagiotou said. The proceeds from the event go to various charities and the high schools involved. Ticket stubs from Thursday night's games and unused tickets from Friday will be honored at The Citadel's season opener against Webber International next weekend. ...

Bulldog Football to Hold First Weekly Press Conference

Spanish Honor Society named Honor Chapter for 16th time

This summer, The Citadel's Tau Iota Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, was one of only 10 chapters nationwide to be selected as an Honor Chapter during the society’s annual Executive Committee Meeting in Milwaukee, Wis. The Tau Iota Chapter has earned this recognition for the 16th consecutive year.
