Biography for Samuel M. Hines, Jr.

Sam Hines is the Provost and Dean of the College for The Citadel. Prior to assuming the Provost position at The Citadel in July 2007, he was a professor and administrator at the College of Charleston for thirty-four years. He held numerous positions at the College of Charleston, including dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, vice-president for departmental affairs and associate provost, dean of graduate studies, acting provost/senior vice-president for academic affairs, chairman and director of the department of political science, director of the Institute for Public Affairs and Policy Studies, and professor of political science, and associate director and coordinator of the MPA Program, Center for Metropolitan Affairs & Public Policy. He is the founding dean of the College of Charleston's newly established School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs. He has a Ph.D. and masters in political science from Duke University and a bachelor's degree in political science from A.B. Davidson College.
