About the Web Cameras ("Webcams")
Because the two web cameras are similar in functionality,
most of this tutorial applies equally to both of them
(Web Camera #1 and
Web Camera #2).
The Citadel webcams are powerful optical zoom cameras with high-speed
auto-focus and wide range pan and tilt that streams live video
to almost any browser without plug-ins. The Citadel webcams
provide a real time video stream of the Citadel's main
campus and parade field.
It is best to view the Citadel Webcams in either
Internet Explorer 6 or Netscape Communicator 7.

How do I control the webcams?
You, the viewer, can control the video image you see by simply
clicking on a provided preset or by adjusting the scroll bars.
The left scroll bar controls the optical zoom.
The right scroll bar controls the up and down tilt of the camera.
The bottom scroll bar controls the right and left motion of the
camera giving you a full 180 degree view of the Citadel's
main campus and parade field.
How do I change the live video window size?
The live streaming video can be viewed at small, medium or large.
To change the view settings go to the Cam Tools bar and
click one of the provided small, medium or large buttons.
It is best to view the small image if your desktop is
set to 640x480, the medium image is best viewed at 800x600 and
the large image is best viewed at 1024x768.
You can also control the quality of the image by clicking the
Lo or High quality button. Remember the larger the image
and the better the quality the more time it may take to
stream the image to your browser.
Why can't I see the video image?
If you have trouble viewing the video, check to make sure you
have a browser capable of loading a live video image.
We recommend using either Internet Explorer 6 or Netscape Communicator 7.
I have the right browser, so why can't I see the live broadcast video image?
If you still can not see the video image make sure you have the
Java applet enabled on your browser.
To check to see if you have Java enabled in Internet Explorer go
to Tools and then Internet Options, click on the Advanced tab and
scroll down to Java VM make sure the Java console enabled box
is checked and the JIT for virtual machine is checked. Then scroll
down to Multimedia and make sure you have the boxes checked for
Play animation, Play videos, and Play sounds.
To check to see if you have Java enabled in Netscape Communicator
go to Edit and then Preferences and click on Advanced and make sure
that Automatically Load Images, Enable Java, and Enable
Javascript are checked.
I can see the image, so why can't I control the webcams?
The Citadel webcams automatically queue users to control them.
If you can see the video image, but you can not control the camera,
check the camera queue by looking at the status control bar.
If you see the green light blinking you should have control of the camera.
If the red light is blinking another user has control of the camera.
Look at the camera queue and it will tell you how many users are
before you in the queue and how much time the current user has
before control is given to the next user in the queue.
