DESCRIPTION OF AGENCY:
Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health
offers a complete continuum of treatment for psychiatric illness and substance
abuse. The training experience is centered on outpatient treatment services,
serving geriatric, adult and adolescents. Palmetto also has
an evening and weekend adult substance abuse program which runs four days a
week for three hours a day and
provides medication management on an outpatient basis by a staff psychiatrist.
STRENGTHS OF TRAINING SITE:
- Patients range across the age
span from age 5 to age 95
- Students are exposed to a wide
range of diagnoses, including psychiatric (from childhood schizophrenia to
adult PTSD and most everything in between) and substance abuse disorders
- Students are exposed to supervisors
reflecting different educational backgrounds and licensure (including LISW,
LMSW, LPC, Certified Additioncs Counselors)

DESCRIPTION OF GROUPS:
Groups range from life skills, medication,
substance abuse, to homebound schools. Group formats include insight oriented,
process oriented and psychoeducational approaches. Several groups are
done each day on each unit for a total of 8 - 10 hours of group hours each week.
