About the Program

Students may take the SEM courses as a standalone 12-credit hour graduate certificate or may apply their SEM courses to the MS in Project Management degree, which is offered under the School of Engineering.  The SEM program is comprised of four graduate-level courses (three required plus on elective) where students engage their systems thinking and related competencies.  The objective of the SEM program is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to manage a product lifecycle using the systems engineering “Vee” model.

Prospective Students
For engineers and non-engineers, the SEM course of instruction has application to a broad spectrum of industries, including manufacturing, medicine, hospitality, software, hardware, and transportation. This program is specifically designed for industry professionals who manage projects and programs that take customer requirements and produce a product designed to meet specified needs.  To provide a broad knowledge base, the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Handbook is used as a primary textbook, along with other references on the engineering of complex systems.
