Scenes from The Citadel:
Fall 2002

Fall at The Citadel means football games, Parents Day excitement,
Homecoming fun and Friday afternoon parades. But there's a lot more to campus life, from the ordinary to the unusual, that Citadel photographer Russ Pace captured on film this semester. Take a look:

Junior Cadets Desiree Browning and Navreet Kohliget a different view
of the canteen at Mark Clark Hall.
An ROTC Marine Cadet works out on the O-Course.
Navy Admiral Frank Lee Bowman, director of the Naval
Nuclear Propulsion, speaks to cadets on the future of the Navy during a Greater Issues speech.
Boo III, the college mascot, visits his fans in Johnson-Hagood stadium during a home football game.
Once a year on a fall Saturday morning cadets wake up early to participate in Field Day. Company and battalion competitions are meant to develop esprit de corps and promote healthy competition.
A cadet races through the inflatable maze on Field Day.
Band Company’s Benjamin Weiss represents The Citadel’s new hockey team as the right wing.
Visitors enjoy a beautiful day on Summerall Field.
A plaque of Robert E. Lee’s famous quote, “Duty is the sublimest word in the English language”
hangs in the front sallyport of every battalion.
Every morning one company forms up for guard mount to relieve
the current company guarding the front sallyports.

One of the 25 known copies of the Declaration of Independence, the Dunlap Broadside,
comes to The Citadel McKissick Library as part of a three-year nationwide tour.
The Dunlap Broadsides were printed on the evening of July 4, 1776 for distribution to the 13 colonies.

Freshmen enjoy an ice cream social at Quarters One (the President’s house).
Senior Cadet Nick Sinclair sits in the hot seat across from Hardball’s Chris Matthews as part of the year-long “Hardball College Tour 2002." Massachusetts Senator John Kerry was the guest for the live telecast.
The sailing team hones their skills on a beautiful day.   The Citadel Sailing Team is usually ranked high by the South Carolina Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association .
