Known to his friends as "Oggie," Regimental Commander Ogden Nash is often asked about his name. Yes, his great-great uncle and namesake is the famous humorist and poet who was an American icon of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Cadet Colonel Ogden Nash is a native of Estill, SC, and a psychology major. He has made Gold Stars, Dean's List, the President's List and Commandant's List. He was elected president of The Citadel's chapter of Psi Chi, the national psychology honor society, during both his sophomore and junior years. As a junior, he received the Major William Marks Hutson award for leadership, academic excellence and devotion to duty. An Army contract cadet, Mr. Nash has firm ideas about his emphasis as regimental commander. His focal points are communication, teamwork, leadership, morale and discipline. "We must ensure that The Citadel is made better than when we arrived, and that the mark of our tenure stands the test of time," he said.
Matt Bartomeo is an electrical and computer engineering major from Myrtle Beach, S.C. A Citadel Scholar, he also holds the John B. Chase Scholarship as the top senior electrical engineering cadet. Among his other activities are membership in The Citadel's Round Table debate and discussion group, the Summerall Guards and the honors program. His cumulative 3.7 GPA has consistently earned Bartomeo Gold Stars as well as places on the president's list and commandant's list. As a junior, Bartomeo served as regimental sergeant major. He was a member of The Citadel's delegation to the National Character and Leadership Symposium at the U.S. Air Force Academy last spring. Last summer, he interned with a contractor working on synergistic design for Duke Power Company.
Jonathan Lovette, a North Carolina native whose family recently moved to Summerville, S.C., is majoring in political science and pre-law with a minor in leadership and ethical studies. He sees law school and possibly politics in his future. Lovette has received a number of scholarships including the Central North Carolina Scholars Scholarship, the Lt. Col. Clark Williams Scholarship, the Charleston Hibernian Society Scholarship and The Citadel Women's Club Scholarship. He has twice been named to both the Commandant's and President's List. Lovette is a member of the Honor Committee and is active in the Inn of Court, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Campus Outreach and intramural athletics. He is also president of The Citadel's Eagle Scout Association.
Puerto Rico native John McComas is a business administration major with a 3.7 GPA. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society and has been an editor of The Brigadier, a member of the Honor Committee and active in the Investment Club and Spanish Club. McComas has also been named to the President's List. He participated in the Texas A&M Leadership Conference earlier this year and has had internships with SouthCoast Community Bank locally as well as with Banco Santander and Banco Popular de Puerto Rico in his home city of San Juan.
Matthew Henfey comes from Philadelphia, Pa. and has a scholarship and contract from the Air Force. A political science major and Spanish minor, Henfey is on the Honor Committee and a Summerall Guard. He has made President's List and Commandant's List and is a member of Sigma Delta Pi, a Spanish honor society. He was named a distinguished graduate of the Air Force ROTC field training last summer. As battalion commander, Henfey hopes his leadership will provide a long-term vision of the values of a Citadel education so that cadets will make the most of their time here.
Harry Zinsser of Melborne, Fla., has a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship and hopes to become a pilot. An electrical engineering major, he is involved in The Citadel Honors Program and has earned President's List and Commandant's List several times. He has been active in the National Eagle Scout Association. During his time at The Citadel, Zinsser has received several military awards including the American Legion General Military Excellence Award, the Reserve Officers Association ROTC Award and his Solo SOAR Wings for USAFA glider training.
Although he has many leadership qualities, William Westmoreland is not related to the famous general with the same name. The Greer, S.C., native is a business administration major with an accounting concentration. He is a consistent Dean's List cadet, a member of the Summerall Guards and recipient of an Army National Guard scholarship. Westmoreland says the Honor Committee is continuing its focus on education, reminding cadets about the importance of honor both at The Citadel and after graduation.
Morgan Cina is a Valencia, Calif., native and Gold Star cadet who is majoring in political science with a concentration on international politics. He and his academic officers administer the class absence system and help maintain a good study environment during ESP. Cina heads The Citadel’s delegation to the Model NATO convention. He is president of the Scipio Africanus Society (an organization interested in international and national security affairs) and is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. After graduation, Cina plans to attend law school.
