Kappa Mu, the Citadel’s Chapter of Delta Phi Alpha, the National German Honor Society, was founded in 1993. The Honor Society itself is one of the oldest in the country and was founded at Wofford College in 1927. The purpose of the Delta Phi Alpha is to "recognize excellence in the study of German and to provide an incentive for higher scholarship. The Society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value and which contribute to man's eternal search for peace and truth" (http://www.deltaphialpha.org).

Qualifications for student membership are:

·       A minimum of two years of college or university German or their equivalent

·       A minimum average of B+ or its equivalent in German courses

·       A minimum cumulative average of B- or its equivalent

·       Indication of continued interest in the study of German language and literature

The Citadel’s chapter of Delta Phi Alpha is active. It sponsors the annual "Grillfest" and of course the initiation ceremony for new inductees. In addition it has invited speakers to campus and hosted several "Filmabende." For more information, contact Dr. Skow-Obenaus.
