TIME--MAGAZINE

The Daniel Library was not allowed to own Time from the late 1930s until 1953. In the 1930s, Time published an unflattering article about Col. Lang, The Citadel's commandant. General Summerall was so infuriated that he had the library cancel its subscription to Time. The library was not allowed to get Time again until General Summerall retired in 1953. Even as late as 1964, the Daniel Library had not filled the gap in its run of Time magazine. (HN)
