THURSTON, JAMES

October 25, 1840-April 13, 1904. Born in Charleston, S.C. Citadel Class of 1861. He was the only Citadel alumnus to serve in the C.S.A. Marine Corps. Captured on the CSS Atlanta near Savannah, G.A. on June 17, 1863. Imprisoned at Fort Lafayette and then at Fort Warren. Escaped and then was recaptured, returned to Fort Warren.
