SALLEY, ALEXANDER SAMUEL

June 16, 1871-February 19, 1961. Salley was a famous South Carolina historian and archivist who graduated from The Citadel in 1892. His pioneering work collecting, preserving and publishing the historical records of South Carolina was the origin of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History.
