1887-1918. Born in Charleston, S.C. Citadel Class of 1908. Credited with giving the football team its name, Bulldogs. According to the entry in his yearbook, Nohrden, "made his first articulation in Charleston, S.C., on August 20, 1887. He, being near the Citadel, was charmed over by the clarion notes of reveille at an early age. 'Julian' received his early education in the public schools of his home city. He won a scholarship to the Charleston High School, where he graduated second in his class. At the age of sixteen he won a scholarship to the College of Charleston, but resigned this to accept an appointment at the Citadel." (Source: The Sphinx, 1908, p. 20) (HN & EC)
