January 1, 1912-October 18, 1996. Veteran of World War II. Received master's and doctoral degrees in history from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Former certified public accountant with Arthur Andersen. Joined The Citadel as as assistant professor of history in 1956, promoted to associate professor in 1960, and professor in 1965. Involved in archaeological excavations in North Carolina and South Carolina. Author of Indian Wars in North Carolina, 1663-1763; The Lower Cape Fear in Colonial Days; and other works.
