LANG, JOHN WALTON

1884-1967. Graduate of the U. S. Military Academy, 1907. He served as a military attaché in Argentine and Mexico prior to coming to The Citadel. From 1932 to 1934, Col. Lang served as Commandant of The Citadel. Lang's Grenadiers were named in his honor. In 1935-1936, he served as Professor of Military Science. He retired from the army on February 28, 1946, with the rank of Brigadier General. He became disabled beginning in 1943, due to Parkinson's disease. (Sources: Official Army Register, 1950.
