GRAY NASTIES
From Knob Knowledge
This term refers to a version of The Citadel duty uniform, both shirt and trousers, no longer worn by the Corps of Cadets. The pictures (below) show the duty uniform before (fresh) and after (crumpled). According to Professor Keith Plemmons, Citadel Class of 1980, the gray nasties were "a cotton uniform that looked pretty good for about 15 minutes, and then looked like gray pajamas for the rest of the day." Dr. Plemmons has said that the Class of 1980 was the last class to wear these cotton uniforms. (Keith Plemmons, Class of 1980, quoted in "Back in the Old Corps," The Brigadier, March 14, 2008, p. 10; The Sphinx, 1980)
