June 6, 1806-August 14, 1856. Superintendent, 1844-1852. Graduate of West Point, 1826. He resigned from the army in 1836 with the rank of first lieutenant. He then served as a civil engineer with the North Carolina Railroad. After leaving The Citadel he studied law, serving first as an attorney in Beaufort, then working briefly at the Charleston Customs House. His portrait hangs in the Daniel Library.
