CAPERS, ELLISON

1837-1908. One of the most distinguished graduates of The Citadel. Class of 1857. He was the younger brother of Maj. Francis W. Capers, the Superintendent of The Citadel at the time. He became a brigadier general in the Confederate Army. Elected Secretary of State in 1866. He later became the Episcopal Bishop of South Carolina from 1894 until his death.
