The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest of the five academic colleges at The Citadel with approximately 40% of the faculty.

  • The Department of Modern Languages has produced six Fulbright Scholarships in the last few years.

  • The Westvaco Professorship in the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice is designed to reward service to The Citadel including outstanding teaching, scholarship, and service to the discipline, college and community.

  • The Psychology Department's School Psychology Program is accredited by the National Association of School Psychology (NASP).

  • The John C. West Chair of Government and International Studies is designed to bring an individual with an exceptionality distinguished and highly visible record of service at the senior levels of diplomacy and government to The Citadel.

  • Fifty percent of the faculty members of the Department of Psychology are Board Certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology - more than any other college or university in SC.

  • The Mark W. Clark Chair of History is designed to bring a distinguished visiting historian to The Citadel to teach in her or his area of specialization at both the undergraduate and graduate level, conduct seminars, organize academic conferences, and deliver public lectures in the community.

  • The Departments of English and History offer collaborative master's programs with the College of Charleston.

  • The Arland D. Williams, Jr. Professorship of Heroism is housed in the Department of Psychology and is awarded on a time-limited basis to a member of the department for the study of heroism.

  • Both the Mark Twain Journal and the Mark Twain Circular are housed in the Department of English.

  • The Department of Psychology master's degree program in Clinical Counseling is approved by the Master's in Psychology Accreditation Council (MPAC).
