The Citadel's Sexual Harassment Tutorial

Sexual harassment of students, faculty, staff will not be tolerated at The Citadel. The Citadel takes a proactive role in providing information and/or training to students and employees on the seriousness of such behavior and the importance of ensuring an educational and work environment in which all individuals are respected.

Sexual harassment is a form of unlawful sex discrimination. Like other forms of illegal discrimination, sexual harassment against either employees or students is prohibited under Title IX of the 1972 educational ammendments and Title VII of the civil rights act of 1964. Memorandum number 51, the Citadel's Sexual Harassment Policy, states that all employees and students are entitled to a positive learning environment free of any type of sexual harassment.

Studies show that many people who commit acts of sexual harassment on the job or on campus do not mean to harass or discriminate. We hope that, by the time you have completed the Tutorial, you not only know why sexual harassment is unlawful, but also can better appreciate the types of conduct that, under the law, are sexual harassment.
