Dr. Cox's curriculum vitae

Marcus S. Cox specializes in 20th Century African American history. He earned a B.S. degree in Marketing and an M.A. degree in history from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. His research interests include African American civil-military history and the history of Black Higher Education. He is the author of several scholarly articles in national publications such as Educational Foundations, Louisiana History, and the International Journal of Africana Studies. Currently, he is revising his manuscript, "Soldiering for Uncle Sam: Black Higher Education and Military Training in the Deep South.”

In addition to a course on western civilization, Cox teaches courses on the modern civil rights movement, African American history, African American military history, and African Americans and the Cold War. He is also the founding Director of The Citadel African American Studies program.
