Bo Moore earned his B.A. degree from Furman University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Duke University. A Professor of History who specializes in the study of the American South, he is the editor of five books, the most recent of which is Warm Ashes: Issues in Southern History at the Dawn of the Twenty-First Century (2003). He is also the author of articles on the political and racial history of the modern South and is under contract with the University of North Carolina Press to write a biography of the South Carolina politician, James F. Byrnes. Professor Moore teaches surveys of the history of the United States and of Western Civilization as well as advanced courses on the "Old South," the "New South," and southern race relations. He has organized and directed seven Citadel Conferences on the South. The most recent one, "The Civil Rights Movement in South Carolina," (http://citadel.edu/citadel/otherserv/hist/civilrights/) was awarded a major grant from the South Carolina Humanities Council and was the basis for a series of articles (http://www.knightridder.com/working/excel/exc_03journalism.html) that won a Knight-Ridder Excellence in Journalism Award for the Columbia State in 2003. Dr. Moore has served as chairperson of The Citadel's history department since 1997. |
