Entrance Counseling

The William D. Ford Direct Loan Program provides students the opportunity to borrow money to help pay for college. These low-interest loans are available even to students who would not ordinarily qualify based on their own credit history.

Because of this, Federal Regulations require that all first time borrowers complete an Entrance Interview prior to disbursement of a Direct Student Loan, so that all students are aware of the entire borrowing process and their repayment options.

You can choose to complete this interview either online or in person. Call to set up an appointment or just access the the website listed below. (You will need a Java enabled browser to use this site and the ability to print a webpage.)

Loan funds will not be disbursed until this interview is complete.

Online Entrance Interviews:

  1. Use the following link to connect to the Direct Loan Entrance Counseling website.
  2. Click on "Entrance Counseling" on the left side of the page. You will be directed to the main entrance counseling page.
  3. Click on "Entrance Counseling Tutorial" located in the list on the left side of the page. This information is on the quiz. You will see blue words throughout the tutorial; click on them to get definitions.
  4. You will click "Continue" to move to the next information screens until you reach the end. Make sure you fully understand the tutorial information before you "Login."
  5. You can Login with or without PIN. If unsure, login without PIN. (This PIN is not your Citadel PAWS pin number. It is Dept. of Education issued. You can apply for one at www.pin.ed.gov)
  6. Take the quiz.
  7. When you finish the quiz, you'll click "Save and Acknowledge."
  8. Print and complete the Rights and Responsibilities checklist at the end of the quiz.
  9. Mail, fax, or hand deliver the checklist to our office.

Remember that we cannot credit the loan funds to your account until you turn in the completed Rights and Responsibilities checklist.

If you have any questions about the website or the material presented, please contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
