FELLOWSHIPS PREPARATION SEMINAR

Important Course for Spring 2014:

FELP 301 (3.0 hours' credit) Tuesday 2.30-5.00pm

I want to let you know of a course to be offered spring semester specifically for highly qualified (minimum GPA of 3.5)  freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are interested in select fellowships after graduation. Last year The Citadel forwarded five promising nominees for Fulbright awards, up from three the previous year. As the number of applicants increases, requisite individual advisement precludes the mid-August to mid-October sprint that we've made in the past, as each applicant frantically compiled a curriculum vitae, intellectual autobiography, fully documented research proposal, references, and foreign-language evaluations in time for national interviews.

Based on similar courses at West Point and the Naval Academy, FELP 301 has the following catalog description:

Preparation for application for nationally competitive fellowships. Open to highly qualified academic cadets committed to graduate study under the aegis of a fellowship foundation, eg, the Institute of International Education (Fulbright, CAORC/DoS), Truman Foundation, Rhodes Trust, British Council. Guest lectures by foundation representatives and past fellowship recipients. Participants target pertinent awards, draft a curriculum vitae, personal statement, and project proposal. Registration by permission of the instructor.

Seeking to build systematically on the recent success of cadet applicants for Fulbright, Truman, and CAORC/DoS Critical Language scholarships, FELP 301 will meet Tuesday 2.30-5.00pm in BOND 350. Registration, by my permission, is limited to ten students. The course is worth 3.0 credit hours and will be offered spring semester only.

Anyone planning to apply for one of the fellowships listed above needs to be in this course. Contact me now at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information.
