From:  MAJ Scott Lucas, English Dept.

RE:  Minutes of 1/28/10 Scholarship Committee meeting.

Members Present:  Fuller, Plemmons, Lucas, Rudolph, Hanchon, Robbins, Timmerman, Calloway, Hurley, Rhodes, Potisuk. Also Present, on behalf of the Star of the West Committee:  Lt. General Claudius Watts, Mr. Charles Klinger.

LTC Fuller began the meeting at 1107 hours.  LTC Fuller introduced LTG Watts and Mr. Klinger to the Committee, and, with them, LTC Fuller explained the nature and history of the Star of the West scholarship.  On behalf of the Star of the West Committee, LTG Watts expressed his gratitude to Hank Fuller and the Scholarship Committee for the work they do in furthering academic achievement at The Citadel.

LTC Fuller then briefly looked forward to the next round of scholarship-applicant interviews, warning the Committee that an extraordinarily large group of perhaps 60 students will come on 3/5/10 to compete for full scholarships.

With other business concluded, the Committee turned its attention to its chief task for the day, selecting students to recommend for full scholarships.  Before deciding on each applicant, the Committee heard a report on the candidate’s credentials and on his/her performance in his/her on-campus interview.  These reports were supplemented at times by COL Rhodes’ reports on his further observation of some of those under consideration.

After deliberations, the following decisions were made on the question of whether or not to offer a full scholarship to each of the applicants named below:

After reviewing these candidates, the Committee decided to adjourn and meet again on 2/4/10 to discuss the remaining candidates from the January 2010 round of interviews.

The meeting adjourned at about 1215 hours.

Respectfully submitted,

MAJ Scott Lucas
