During the initial meeting on October 16, 2011 Mike Barth was elected chair for the 2012-2013 academic year.

 

At the initial meeting in October, budget information was provided, including copies of BG Elzey’s briefing from the prior April. James Openshaw described some of the budget concepts and provided new members with some historical background.

 

The committee did not meet during the Spring semester.

 

It is noted that senior administration members met directly with Faculty Council twice during the year and their briefing covered high-level budget matters. Part of the Q&A from the second meeting with senior administration members directly raised concerns about allocation of financial resources that affect faculty.

 

Additionally, an ad hoc committee convened during the year as part of the SACS accreditation study also addressed faculty-related budget issues, and faculty members were included as part of that team. In short, there may be duplication of coverage by various committees. The standing committee structure may warrant revision.
