Faculty Research Committee Annual Report 2011-2012

 

The Faculty Research Committee met on September 20, 2011, to discuss the duties of the committee for the upcoming academic year. Dr. Kristy Johnson volunteered to serve as Chair of the committee, and Dr. Michael Woo and Dr. Lauren Maxwell volunteered to serve as heads of the Math and Science subcommittee and the Humanities subcommittee, respectively. It was agreed that grant proposals would be distributed electronically and that any discussion on the grants would be conducted electronically. Votes would be collected within one week by the heads of the subcommittees and forwarded to the committee chair via email.

 

During the fall semester, the committee reviewed proposals for Faculty Presentation Grants, New Faculty Research Grants, Faculty Research Grants, and Page Charge Grants. The committee reviewed a total of 37 Faculty Presentation grant proposals in September of 2011 and recommended funding all of these proposals which totaled $41,758.85. In October of 2011, the committee reviewed a total of 3 New Faculty Research Grants and recommended funding all of these proposals which totaled $8850.36. In November of 2011, the committee reviewed 51 Faculty Research Grants and recommended funding all of these proposals which totaled $145,266.92.

 

In the spring semester, the committee reviewed New Faculty Research Grants, Faculty Presentation Grants, and Page Charge Grants. In January of 2012, the committee reviewed a total of 3 New Faculty Research Grants and recommended funding all of these proposals which totaled $8950.00. Also in January of 2012, the committee reviewed a total of 35 Faculty Presentation Grants and recommended funding all of these proposals which totaled $46,197.76. In April of 2012, the committee reviewed a total of 7 Faculty Presentation Grants and recommended funding all of these proposals which totaled $8344.30.

 

Page Charge Grants were submitted to the committee regularly during the year, and 4 Faculty Presentation Grants, 1 Faculty Research Grant, and 1 Supplemental Grant were submitted out of the usual sequence. Throughout the year, the committee reviewed a total of 8 Page Charge Grants and recommended funding all of these proposals which totaled $4829.60. In December of 2011, the committee reviewed 1 Faculty Presentation of Research Grant and recommended funding it for $2500.00. In March of 2012, the committee reviewed 1 Faculty Research Grant and one Supplemental Grant that were submitted late; both grants were recommended for funding, totaling $6000.00. Also in March, the committee reviewed 3 Faculty Presentation Grants and recommended funding them for $3189.02.

 

In summary, the Faculty Research Committee reviewed a grand total of 150 grants in the 2011-2012 academic year and recommending funding in the amount of $275,886.81.
