Annual Report of the Faculty Athletic Advisory Committee
This past academic year the Faculty Athletic Advisory Committee (FAAC) held two group-wide meetings and a number of subcommittee meetings. During the first group-wide meeting, I was elected the new chairperson and am providing you with this report in keeping with my duties.
This year the FAAC accomplished three things. The first is an improvement in the communication between coaches and faculty regarding student athlete participation in away games. The second is a partial revision of the charter for the Committee. We are making the final changes currently and expect to submit the charter for approval by the end of this semester or the beginning of next semester. The changes to the charter are designed to ensure that the Committee continues to meet the needs of student athletes despite the dynamic nature of membership of the Committee and attendance at its meetings. The third major accomplishment is an ongoing revision of the mechanisms we use to ensure that student athletes receive academic advising prior to registration deadlines. We are currently investigating the potential for using an online tool to streamline the efforts of athlete support staff and faculty involved in the advising process. This work has been spearheaded by Chip Taylor and promises to be of use not only for advising student athletes but for students within the Corps of Cadets as a whole.
In the event final changes are made to the charter in the next week, the FAAC may hold a final meeting to approve the changes before sending the new charter to Faculty Council for approval. In the event such a meeting doesn’t take place by year end, the next meeting will be in the early part of the fall term of the next academic year.
