SYLLABUS: GEOG-511 WORLD GEOGRAPHY

1. INSTRUCTOR - Dr. James. P. May; Office #BY318; MAYJ@CITADEL.EDU, 953-7793. Drop in any time if you need to confer with me about anything. Appointments are not necessary. If you are having a problem, don't let it ride..... Talk with me about it!

2. CLASS SCHEDULE - Refer to this schedule frequently in order to keep abreast of the class topics, assignments, and late breaking news.

3. ATTENDANCE - Please refer to regulations in the Catalog of Graduate Programs regarding class attendance. Punctuality, faithful attendance, and attentiveness are important and contribute to your grade in the course. There will be frequent hands-on activity and you must participate in order to benefit. According to college regulations, absence in excess of 20% of the regularly schduled class periods , regardless of cause, may result in a failing grade in the course.

4. TEXTBOOKS - Always bring textbooks to class. We frequently refer to figures and tables.
A. Introduction to Geography, Getis (Pub: W. C. Brown)
B. Goode's Atlas (Rand McNally; this is a "keeper")
C. Worksheets (You should print copies of worksheets located in the webpages and bring to class on the
          appropriate days. They include lists of physical and cultural features)

6. SEATING - please sit in your assigned desk. I will use a seating chart to take role.

7. BRIEFINGS - Select this topics to receive information of briefings assignment.

8. STANDING ASSIGNMENT - Read the newspapers and news magazines; watch the news on TV. Bring current events issues into class. This is the reason we should learn geography... for example, where is Kosovo, Rwanda, Indonesia, or Basra, or .....? Who are the Kurds? Why are they acting the way they are?

9. IDEAS - The class needs your ideas to make the course more interesting and useful. This is your course, wherein you receive information, not only from me, but from each other that will be beneficial to you. Feel free to share experiences, make suggestions, or ask questions at any time.
