OBJECTIVES - To learn basic principles of geography and to become familiar with major physiographic and cultural regions of the world.
SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED - To learn to listen, comprehend, and take notes. To learn where to find needed information. To learn to express your ideas and opinions. To become familiar with the earth and our relationship with it. See schedule of classes for list of specific topics.
TEXTBOOKS - Getis et al. - Introduction to Geography; Goode's Atlas; Bring texts to class. We frequently refer to figures and tables.
MATERIALS - You will need a looseleaf notebook for your notes, handouts, and tests.
TESTS - You are expected to take the test at the scheduled time. Make-ups may be possible in the event of a conflict, provided written documentation is submitted before the event. In case of a true medical emergency, the written documentation must come from the attending physician. Failure to observe this policy will result in a grade reduction of 10 points.

*Participation refers to your attendance, punctuality, attention, and participation in class. Sleeping, talking, and similar disturbances will lower your grade.
ATTENDANCE - Mandatory! Absence and tardiness will adversely affect your grade. Please be in your seat ready to work at the beginning of class. If you are not, you will be marked absent. See me immediately after class to change your absence to a late. My role is official. Absences totaling over 20% of total classes (9) earns an automatic F. All absences are unexcused. I do not excuse absences. It is not an academic topic. You do not have permission to get up and leave the classroom to go to the rest room.
STANDING ASSIGNMENT - Read the newspapers and watch the news on TV. Bring to class hard copy of current events issues (less than one week old) that are related to geography. I may call upon you to share the news with the class at any time!
BRIEFING - Think about a country that you would like to research and on which you would present an oral report to the class.
