Teaching Style

A variety of teaching formats will be employed throughout this course, to more effectively transmit the subject of organic chemistry to the students. All of the following will be employed in addition to others as deemed necessary:

Class will meet each day from 8:00 am until 9:45 am with a ten minute break in the middle. On test days, there will be a ten minute break after the test followed by a half-hour of lecture.

Student's Attitude

Since you may want a letter of recommendation in the future, conduct yourself in a professional way.  Remember your words, attitude, and work ethic leave a lasting impression in the minds of those around you, including the professor.  Therefore, ...

How to Study for Chem 208

Organic chemistry like many science and math classes requires regular study.  Students expecting to study one or two nights before a test and do well will find that this technique results in a test score of F.  If you would like to succeed in Chem 208 study regularly by doing the following...

Suggested Homework Problems

Homework problems are listed in the table above. These problems can be found in the course textbook, starting throughout the reading in a chapter and continuing at the end of the chapter. These problems will not be graded. However, some of these problems could appear on future tests. The homework will provide adequate experience solving organic chemistry problems.

Test Format

Tests will address material from the lecture notes, textbook, CLEs and suggested homework problems. The following types of questions will appear on tests, as appropriate:

Tests will start at 8:00 am and end at 9:00 am. This timeframe will provide students one full hour to complete the tests. No additional time will be given, except to LD students with written documentation (see below). On test days, there will be a ten minute break after the test followed by a half-hour of lecture.
