About the Accelerated MAT Program
As part of a larger effort to enhance mathematics and science literacy in the Lowcountry, The Citadel has developed an Accelerated Master of Arts in Teaching degree program in Biology and Mathematics to attract more science and mathematics professionals who are interested in becoming highly effective high school teachers of biology and mathematics. The prescribed coursework is taken over a 12-month period (fall, spring, and summer) followed by a semester-long, student-teaching internship. Students can expect to take approximately 36 graduate credit hours to complete the degree program. Successful completion of the program will qualify the student to be recommended for a South Carolina teaching certificate/ license in their chosen discipline. This program assumes a substantial undergraduate preparation in the proposed certification area. Transcripts will be evaluated through a dual advisement system that includes content and education faculty. Additional undergraduate coursework may be required before beginning the prescribed course of study.
