"Promoting
Excellence in the Profession of Counseling"
Chi
Sigma Iota is the international
honor society for students, professional counselors and counselor
educators established at Ohio University in 1985. Our mission
is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership
and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment
in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the
profession of counseling.
Chi Sigma Iota, the International Counseling
Academic and Professional Honor Society, was established January
1, 1985, following several months of planning by representatives
of the Counselor Education training program at Ohio University
and leaders in the United States counseling profession. The
impetus for the formation of an international honor society
in counseling came from a desire to provide recognition for
outstanding academic achievement as well as outstanding service
within the counseling profession. The formation of an Honor
Society appeared to be a fruitful avenue by which to provide
a much-needed link among students, educators, practitioners
and administrators in various counseling settings. While the
scope of the Society is international, its focus is upon the
personal and professional development of its individual members.
The Society is committed to doing all it can to uphold the
high standards of its members.
