- Ansley Stewart, a Spring 2008 Literacy Education intern at The Citadel, has been named Rookie Teacher of the Year at Flowertown Elementary School. She has also been selected as a semi-finalist for Dorchester District Two's Rookie Teacher of the Year.
- 2007 winners of the Dr. Charles E. Hirshey Award for Excellence in Graduate Studies:
  - Mary Ann Benson who graduated with a 4.0 GPA earning a Master of Education in Reading degree; and
  - Daniel A. Polasek who graduated with Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education in Social Studies degree.
