Biographical Sketch
Joe Rotter currently holds the rank of Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina. In addition, he has served as a consultant to school districts, social service agencies, and business and industry throughout the United States. He has taught, consulted, and/or delivered papers in Brazil, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Tanzania, Korea, Japan, Canada, and several countries in Western Europe. He is a National Certified Counselor, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, and a Licensed Counseling Psychologist. He served a three-year term as Editor of the Elementary School Guidance and Counseling journal and served as Associate Editor of The Family Journal. He also served on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Play Therapy and the Journal of Technology in Counseling. He directed the General Electric Foundation Career Development Leadership Institute at the University of South Carolina for thirteen years and served three years as Principal Investigator of the Career Development Training Institute project . His research interests are in the areas of counseling children through play, child/ family stress, and career development. He was a co-recipient of a grant from the Overseas Schools Advisory Committee to study children's stress and fear. Dr. Rotter is also co-author of five books and many articles in professional journals. He is past president of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and served terms on the American Counseling Association Governing Council and Executive Committee.
