Division of Educational Leadership candidates obtained administrative promotions during Fall 2008.
Congratulations to the following graduates of The Citadel programs in educational leadership for achieving positions as educational leaders in the Lowcountry:

Mr. Rodney Thompson, Director of Middle and Secondary Education

Mr. Dixon earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from The College of Charleston and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from The Citadel. He is currently enrolled as a candidate for the Educational Specialists Degree at The Citadel. Mr. Dixon's professional experience includes classroom teaching at St. Stephen Elementary School where he was honored as The Disney Teacher of the Year. His administrative experience includes positions as Assistant Principal at Boulder Bluff Elementary School and The Daniel Island School prior to his appointment as Principal, Memminger Elementary School. His vision is to transform Memminger into a global school with an inquiry-based emphasis.
Ms. Jennifer Swearingen, grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. She graduated from Irmo High School, the College of Charleston, and The Citadel. She is currently a candidate for the Ed. S. in Educational Leadership at The Citadel. Her professional experience includes teaching fifth and sixth grade mathematics at Ladson Elementary School and as Assistant Principal at Jennie Moore Elementary School. Appointed Principal in August, 2008; Ms. Swearingen is fortunate and proud to be a part of Oakland Elementary School.
Mr. Rodney Thompson has recently been appointed Director of Middle and Secondary Education for the Berkeley County School District. Mr. Thompson previously served as Principal of Hanahan High School and as a classroom teacher. He earned a M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from The Citadel.

Congratulations to Dr. Kay Woelfel and members of the ASPIRE group (a cohort of CCSD teachers participating in a cohort-based master of education in educational leadership program): R. Carl Burch; Barbara Falkenstein; Barbara B. Hairfield; Cindy Leal; and Christine Ryan for their recent publication, "Sports Metaphors as a Motivational Leadership Strategy" in the November 10th 2008 issue of Academic Leadership.
