The Citadel Executive Institute Introduces Professional Development Short-Courses A recent issue of The Citadel Business Network announced that executive education courses were coming to The Citadel. All across the nation colleges and universities have recognized that in order to stay competitive one must continue to learn throughout one's career. The Citadel Executive Institute (as it is now called) is here to help individuals do that. Clearly many of you already know that ongoing development is key to career success because the response to that initial article was great.
Everything CEI does is structured to fit the demanding schedules of our working clients. Courses are direct, engaging, job-relevant, concentrated, cost-effective, and accessible. In other words, they are designed with the working professional in mind. I invite you to visit our web site, www.cei.citadel.edu, to preview these terrific courses. CEI will also send out special mailings highlighting subject-specific seminars, conferences, workshops and/or certificate courses, some of which may be eligible for continuing education credits. The American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB) has established a professional certification, the Certified Bookkeeper (CB) credential, a high professional standard for bookkeepers. By successfully passing three separate examinations and signing a written code of ethics, bookkeepers with at least two years work experience can earn the right to put "CB" after their name. The experience requirement may be completed before or after the examinations. A CB has the proven skills and knowledge to carry out all key accounting functions through the adjusted trial balance for a firm of up to 100 employees. By becoming a Certified Bookkeeper, you can increase your earning potential, enhance your standing as a professional, and give yourself an edge even in the most competitive job markets. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Certified Bookkeepers "will have the best job prospects" (p. 391). Certification distinguishes you from other bookkeepers because it proves that you can handle all the books through the adjusted trial balance for a company of up to 100 employees. Certification is also proof of your bookkeeping skills and abilities, proof that you have met high national standards, and proof that you can execute those skills. The course focuses on preparing you for the national Certified Bookkeeper examination by helping you truly master the skills and knowledge required for certification, which are as follows:
Certified Bookkeepers (CB) are to bookkeeping what CPA's are to accounting: the individuals at the top of the profession.
