Dear Citadel Business Networkers,

Welcome to the Citadel Business Network! We have started this newsletter to improve your networking and provide you information on the activities of Citadel alumni and students as well as developments in the new Citadel School of Business Administration.

This first issue of the Network Newsletter is a dream come true. It has been a work in progress for the past year.

What follows is information about why you have received this newsletter and how you can help us. Finally, I will introduce the Founding Editorial Board of the Network.

Subscribing. This newsletter will come to you courtesy of The Citadel Alumni Association. Association Executive Director Mike Rogers has played a special role in developing the Network and this Newsletter.

This first issue will be sent to all e-mail subscribers of the Alumni Association. You need not be a member of The Citadel Alumni Association to subscribe; anyone may do so. Please invite all who are interested in Citadel activities and Charleston affairs to join us. If you desire, you can unsubscribe to this newsletter by finding the appropriate button on the left column.

Helping Us. You can help us by telling us of news stories that would interest our readers. That is, perhaps you know of developments in the School of Business Administration that should be reported or stories about Citadel graduates who are making interesting contributions in the sectors we cover. Or perhaps you know of engaging stories about Charleston. If you do, please contact any of the Editors of the Network. Details on them are below.

Editors. Finally, let me introduce the Founding Editorial Board of The Citadel Business Network. Note that the Editors will also serve initially as reporters, though we would hope to expand our writers beyond this Founding Board. Our Executive Editor is Jason Lambert. The Founding Editorial Board in alphabetical order are: Max Ballard, Reid Davis, Ann Elish, Andy McCleaf, Kirby Marshall, and Bob Nuttall. Finally, I want to thank those who are helping me as advisers to the Founding Editorial Board. They are: Patricia McArver, Mike Rogers, Brent Stewart, and Angela Williams.

Best wishes,

Earl

Citadel Creates New Business School

On September 14, 2002 The Citadel Board of Visitors created new schools at the College. One of the first to be established was the School of Business Administration. The Business School has replaced the Department of Business Administration and has a new mission, covenant and vision. The mission of the School is "to educate and develop leaders of principle to serve a global community." The covenant includes such values as integrity, fairness, concern for others, the dissemination of knowledge, and continuous improvement. The vision provides very specific goals for 2007 and 2017. The vision includes aspirations that seek to "consistently produce leaders of exceptional integrity dedicated to developing others and creating high-performance organizations that prosper in challenging environments."

The School has begun a number of new initiatives to include a Center for Leadership Development, a Mentors Association, and a Leadership Forum. Furthermore, the School is working to develop new leadership modules in its academic curriculum that will help students better become the leaders of principle that The Citadel has envisioned for its graduates since its founding in 1842.

Like the former Department of Business Administration, the School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, also known as AACSB. This is the premier Business School accrediting body in the world. Accreditation by AACSB attests that Citadel Business School graduates have an education commensurate with the finest degrees offered worldwide. For more on the School, please visit its award winning website at http://citadel.edu/badm/.

Finally, the School of Business Administration has a full-time dean, associate dean, and two division chairs, all of whom are listed below along with their phone numbers and email addresses.
