Video Resources

Multimedia Services offers limited video services for the faculty and staff of The Citadel. The services that we offer include tape dubbing and digitizing audio and video, as long as it falls within the boundaries of the Fair Use Act and is used for furthering the academic standards of The Citadel. Multimedia Services also offers limited filming capabilities in order to provide the faculty and staff with an archival record of an event for later academic review and discussion.

The Fair Use Act

Multimedia Services strictly adheres to the guidelines set forth in the Fair Use Act, in Section 107 of the U.S. Copyright Act of 1976. If you have any questions as to whether or not your project is acceptable under the Fair Use Act, please contact us.

Additional Information

The Consortium of Colleges and Universities(CCUMC) has many helpful resources pertaining to the Fair Use Act, found on their Professional Guidelines and Policies page. They also have a helpful summary of the guidelines in a table format.

Of course, the U.S. Copyright Office is the ultimate resource for learning about the Fair Use Act. They have a brief description of the act, as well as a brochure(PDF) titled "Reproduction of Copyrighted Works by Educators and Librarians".

The Stanford University Libraries have put together a very comprehensive site about copyright and the Fair Use Act. Also listed on the Stanford Law School site is a very clever video, called A Fair(y) Use Tale, that uses only snippets from Disney movies to describe the Fair Use Act.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has a great overview of Copyright and the Fair Use Act and some very helpful examples of what is considered Fair Use and what is not.
