The Citadel Graduate College conferred degrees on Saturday, May 7, 2011 in McAlister Field House and honored outstanding students in several departments.

The Citadel Graduate College honors outstanding graduates
At The Citadel Graduate College commencement exercises Saturday, May 7, 2011, in McAlister Field House, 336 degrees were conferred and awards were presented.  Charleston RiverDogs co-owner Gene Budig gave the commencement address and was presented an honorary doctorate of letters.

The Citadel Board of Visitors presented an honorary degree to Gene A. Budig, the speaker at the May 7, 2011 commencement exercises for The Citadel Graduate College. The honorary degree is the highest honor the college can bestow.

Cadet Class of 2011 leaves The Citadel prepared to be leaders

The South Carolina Corps of Cadets’ Class of 2011 entered Lesesne Gate in August 2007 as a group of nervous and eager young men and women just out of high school. Today they leave The Citadel confident and prepared to be leaders in the state and nation and abroad.

HESS’ Carter named top undergraduate educator for second time

John S. Carter, professor and head of the Department of Health, Exercise and Sport Science, is The Citadel's 2011 recipient of the James A. Grimsley Undergraduate Teaching Award for outstanding performance in instruction and service to undergraduate students


Corps of Cadets recognizes first and second honor graduates

The Citadel on Saturday, May 7, recognized the two cadets whose academic achievement over the course of their Citadel career stood out among all others. First Honor Graduate is Noah Koubenec of Pilot Mountain, N.C., and the Second Honor Graduate is Hamad Khahil Al-Meer of East Raffa, Bahrain.


Cadet, professor receive Algernon Sydney Sullivan awards

Cadet Steven Anthony Muñoz and Spanish professor Sara Fernández Medina were presened the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award is a bronze medallion presented by The Citadel through the New York Southern Society to students and faculty in recognition of high thought and noble endeavor.

First project management students to graduate
The first class of the Master of Science in Project Management program will graduate on Saturday.  The program began in 2010 after the surging interest in the Certificate in Project Management program, is the only MSPM program in South Carolina.

Graduates have strong ties to institution
Among the 336 students graduating are 15 legacies—students who have a familial tie to Citadel alumni.  These student legacies have been granted permission by the Board to Visitors to have their alumni family members present them with their diplomas.

They arrived here in August 2007 in record breaking numbers – the largest freshman class in 30 years. On Saturday, May 7, 2011, the South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2011 will complete its Citadel leadership journey.

Graduation is at a new time this year -- 9 a.m., on Saturday, May 7 for the Corps of Cadets and at 5 p.m. the same day for The Citadel Graduate College.
